- 1.) OFFICIALS MUST LOVE the GAME and MUST WANT to be there !!!
- 2.) OFFICIALS should be willing to Rove (Locally, THIS is where MOST of the action is), Chair, and do Lines!!!
- 3.) OFFICIALS must attest to having vision of 20/20, either corrected or uncorrected. EVERY EVEN YEAR, each on-court official (except provisionals) shall include with his/her certification application, a physician's statement attesting that the Official has 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected !!!

- 4.) OFFICIALS MUST ATTEND a class and pass the CERTIFICATION TEST for their level EACH YEAR !!! In 2011, LOCALLY, on March 19-20, USTA, ITA and REFEREE classes will be offered in CINCINNATI at the Lunken Tennis Center-4750 Playfield Lane, Cincinnati, OH. 45226. Those interested can contact Barry Fittes by E-MAIL at bfittes@cinci.rr.com (or call Barry at 513-265-0090) to attend the CINCINNATI classes. The Dayton SATURDAY Agenda will be the USTA UMPIRE Class for OFFICIALS with MORE THAN 3 years experience, from 8:00AM to 12:00PM. The ITA Class will be held from 1:00PM-3:00PM, and the REFEREE Class will be from 3:00PM-5:00PM. The SUNDAY USTA UMPIRE Class is for OFFICIALS with 3 or fewer years experience and will be held from 8:00AM until 1:00 PM.*

For those who live in the cities where a National Trainer Evaluator will teach, please make every effort to attend that session !!!

A PROVISIONAL UMPIRE is the ONLY LEVEL which does NOT require a class attendance.
PROVISIONAL TEST INFORMATION
You may take the provisional test online.
To do so, please access the necessary information from the following Mid West Officials web site:

CLICK ONTO the Section entitled PROVISIONAL TEST ON-LINE.
Prior to taking the Test, one would do well to know the rules. The rules are found in the Friend at Court, the reference for tennis officials. This booklet is reissued with changes each year. If you don't have a Friend at Court, a copy may be ordered through the New York USTA Office. The address is 70 West Red Oak Lane, White Plains, NY, 10604. YOU can also order the Friend at Court from the USTA Web Site, USTA. Or, finally, call toll-free: 1-888-832-8291, M-F, 8AM - 10PM EST. The cost is $5.00 plus shipping. USTA members receive a 10% discount. Or you may possibly borrow a copy of the Friend at Court from Tournament Directors at your club.
Once you are prepared to take the test, answer form allows one to input answers to each test question. Associate your test questions with the answer form. Once you are happy with your answers, please select "submit." The answers will be corrected and the results returned to you as quickly as possible. Good Luck !!!
